I had already had one Residential Tenancy Branch hearing, and it had not gone well. I was even lucky enough to have had some legal advice from a childhood friend but, it still went wrong. It was clear that there was more to an RTB hearing than first thought.
For the second hearing, I was lucky enough to have recommended to me one Don MacPherson, of MoMac Consulting. It was a magnitude of relief; in all seriousness it was wonderful to have some direction, some theory and a clear plan, that’s worth a sigh of relief. Prior to meeting Mr. MacPherson I had felt completely alone and overwhelmed, it was such a release to feel that there was someone there to help and to feel that there was someone there for support.
The hearing itself consisted of me stating my name and answering one or two questions (in one word only), and Don handling the rest - professionally and thoroughly. The problem was resolved and the tenants were required to vacate the apartment.
More recently, I was handed an eviction notice…the building that I had managed for nine years had been sold and the new owners issued an eviction notice - it was based on my apartment somehow being part of the deal to manage this building. The notice was for the end of February 2010. This was unfair as it was based on incorrect information, having lived in this apartment for 19 years! Again, Don explained the course of action to be taken and how to go about getting the results I wanted. I had hoped for a couple of months more to prepare to move, we got that and more. With a thorough knowledge of the RTB policies and an in depth understanding of the process of these hearings, Don MacPherson is an invaluable resource that you cay rely on.
